How to serve others

Jesus said that serving others is at the heart of what he came to do, and it should therefore be at the heart of our own lives. But who should we serve? And how should we go about serving? In this session we look at serving our church, neighbour, and community.

Not slaves but free – Galatians 4:21-31 Sermon

All the way through Galatians we have seen the difference between the true gospel and the false gospel. Here Paul uses the illustration of Hagar and Sarah to compare and contrast the two “gospels” – only one of them is true, and yet we often find ourselves on the wrong side!

You might like to read the passage first.

Taking Communion

Communion is something important in a church – but why? What does it mean? And just how important is it? In this video we look at what the Bible says about communion and think about some practicalities.

How to BE the church!

Is church (a) a building, (b) a service, (c) people? In this session we look at what church actually is, and how we can go about being the church. Being the church is more than simply going on a Sunday – it requires a whole change of our mindset.

The book I mentioned at the end is Devoted to God’s Church by Sinclair Ferguson.

NEW! Online Bible Study

I’m going to be starting an online Bible study course, livestreamed, starting with the What is Christianity? course. It will be an opportunity to do the course with me and ask questions. I’ll be able to explain things in a bit more detail and go over anything which you need help understanding.

Here’s a little video of me expaining it:

Key points

  • It will be at 2pm on Thursdays (UK time). You can either join in live or use it at a later date;
  • You can ask questions on the livestream, or submit them by email (I’ll deal with the previous week’s questions at the start of each session);
  • We’ll start by working through the What is Christianity? course.
  • Each session, we’ll watch the course video and I’ll add some comments along with it, and there will be the opportunity to ask questions as well.
  • You can either join in on your own, or as part of a small group (e.g. it might be appropriate for a church home group).

In Acts 10 (see the previous sermon) we heard about how the gospel overcomes our differences. In this passage we look deeper and see that prejudice is offensive to God, and ultimately it is grace which is the solution to prejudice.

The gospel overcomes our differences – Acts 10:9-23 Sermon

How do we react in a society which is becoming increasingly divided? In this sermon we look at a key passage in Acts 10 where an important division is overcome.

This passage was preached this morning in my own church, and over the next few weeks we will be returning to the book of Acts several times.
