God is our safe space – Psalm 91 Sermon

A short sermon on Psalm 91, looking at how God is the one who keeps us safe from everything going on in the world. I chose this passage particularly because I think a lot of people are worried about what’s going on at the moment with the coronavirus, but it’s relevant all the time.

Whose fault is 2020? – Christmas Message

Someone recently described 2020 as the worst year in their lifetime. Maybe you feel like that too. Coronavirus and lockdowns, BLM, politics, division, it’s all kicked off. But who is at fault? Who is to blame for 2020? And what does the Bible have to say about it?

Taking a break

I will be taking a break over the next couple of weeks. This means no Regular features such as Learn to read the Bible or Thought for the week. All regular content will be returning in early January.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported Understand the Bible in every way over this past year – I appreciate it so much. I feel like God has blessed the ministry over this past year, and I am looking forward to seeing the way he wants UTB to develop over the coming year.

All that remains is to wish you all a very happy Christmas and new year, and I pray God’s blessings upon each and every one of you. May he keep you safe and be your guide now and ever more.

Looking for more?

If you’d like to you can see last year’s Christmas message “The Christmas you’ve always wanted”.

All Christmas content on Understand the Bible is under the Christmas category.

How to cope with Fear

There’s a lot of fear around at the moment due to the coronavirus. I think it’s almost worse at the moment now that we’re allowed out again but have to observe all the social distancing, mask wearing etc. I wanted to record a short video to talk about what the Bible says about fear and how to cope with it.

Here is a short reflection on Luke 12:4-8, where Jesus talks about what – or who – we should fear, and how that helps us to cope in these circumstances.

Is the Coronavirus God’s judgement?

I did a Facebook live session tonight thinking about whether the coronavirus is God’s judgement on us. I know it’s a question quite a few people have been asking. It’s a big topic and you’d have to spend hours really going into all the ins and outs, but this is my go at giving an answer live in a few minutes:

The passage I read from is Joel 2:12-14.

Hope from the Bible in a time of coronavirus

Hope in a time of Coronavirus title

I know that a lot of people are anxious about the coronavirus at the moment, and I wanted to say something specifically about how the Bible speaks into that situation. I thought the best way would be through a Facebook livestream – I’ve decided to do a short livestream on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings with a short reading and thought from the Bible.

Tonight’s livestream was on Psalm 46 and is here: (apologies for the first bit – Facebook had issues – skip forward a couple of minutes for the real thing!)

The previous one from Wednesday night was about Jesus calming the storm and is available here.
